About EVFs and that camera acquisition bug...

Thanks carusoswi for sharing your story and updating this thread. It's nice to get a notification about a thread in the KM forum. It's been a while.

Your preferences are a bit different from mine, as I now consider an EVF to be the most important camera feature I gained since upgrading from the KM 7D. I think you may want to rent a camera with a modern EVF and run it through its paces to see the benefits. They are numerous - the big ones (for me) are magnified manual focus, and being able to view taken pictures without having to take my eye from the viewfinder and at much higher quality and detail than a washed out LCD screen. The additional level of information and control of camera settings (again, without taking the eye from the viewfinder) is the icing on the cake.

On the other hand, perhaps it's better to not wake up that camera acquisition bug if it's currently in hibernation. In my case it's not only woken up, I'd say the options I'm now considering are the most confusing and contradicting they've ever been, so I'm just putting things on hold until I manage to come up with a conclusion or find a great second hand offering that convinces me one way or another. I sold more gear than I bought in the last year or so (parted with a Sony A6000, a first-gen A77 and three lenses) so at least I can justify buying a new camera.

A couple of things that are certain are that I won't be selling my KM 7D and won't move to a non-Sony mount. I won't get any significant amount of money for the 7D, and I still use it occasionally. I now have it locked in the office, with even more ancient Sigma 50/2.8 Macro lens and a Minolta 5200i flash I bought 25 years ago. This combo does come up usefull occasionally, for macro or people shots, and it's nicer to use and delivers better pictures than any cellphone I would otherwise need to use.
