if you aren’t interested in the new lenses from the get go I don’t see a compelling reason to bother switching out your 6d2. I doubt prices will come down until a few years down the line at which point the R will likely seem terribly under-spec.

However, to be completely honest, the only spec that's missing holding me back from the R is IBIS.  If it had had IBIS, I'd be pre-ordering.  I know it's still under-specced compared to the competition, but it would have been specced enough for me to get and be happy with the decision.

Why is IBIS such a big deal to me?  It's because I only have one ILIS lens (the 70-200 / 4L IS II) and none of my other lenses have IS, nor do IS versions of those lenses even exist.

So, one might rightfully argue that if it's all about IBIS, then Canon isn't for me, and I should just move to the Z.  But, like so many others, I have so much EF stuff, that to sell it all off and switch systems is a major hassle and will cost a lot.

Still, why get the first-gen R if the 6D2 serves me well and the R doesn't have IBIS?  Yeah -- that's why I'll wait things out for a while.  Perhaps I'll eventually choose to bite the bullet and switch, even though I'd rather not.
