Get R now, wait, pass, or switch?

hard decision...

My first take is that you should just get it. Even if you feel it should be $400-500 cheaper, if you keep it for as long as you have previous bodies, that is only $100/year. What is the value of having the system you want, that you (hopefully!) will enjoy more and perhaps use more, and hopefully would enable you to do things you can't right now? In the end, life is short, you have to enjoy it while you can.

OTOH, the R is a first-version release, and perhaps more 0.something than 1.something. Hopefully they will put out another model, even at this level, that is better. Look at the the M system, for example. So perhaps it is better to wait for the next rev.

However, OTOOH, being Canon, whatever they release at the same level will probably come a lot later than you might hope, and be a lot less of an improvement than you would hope (see 6D MkII, my enduring example, lol). So perhaps you could get the R, and when the R2 came out, not be floored by the differences, and keep using your R until you can get the R2 on refurb for cheap like you did with your 6D and 6D2.

And I agree with that one guy up-thread, you take awesome photos already, you don't need a new camera, lol.
