Banner yr. for cruise/travel gear and then Tim Cook in 3 days :-)

Looks like it's shaping up for a great year in updating one's travel/cruising gear. The EOS R and of course the A7III which is still relatively new and the coming announcement of maybe 3 new iphones on Sept. 12th.

In CDN$ the EOS R + 24-105 R lens is $ 4,400 vs. Sony A7III + 24-105/4 of $ 4,300. I think the latter offers more since it has IBIS, more fps and 2 card slots. However with the former I will get the adapter too (maybe $ 130) to fit my EF lenses.

I normally cruise once a year and for that the R should be good enough. Regardless of image stabilization, I need to bump up the shutter speed to 1/1000 sec. or 1/2000 sec. to compensate for ship movement. Higher ISOs shouldn't be a problem for the newer Digic 8.

Having said all the above, I still think that the lighter option is Sony's APS-C e-mount. For restaurant and evening cruise ship shots indoors and outdoors I have the fantastic and smallish Zeiss 1.8/24 and A6000 on my shoulder. The combo is so light I hardly notice it is there.

And then there's that rumoured top of the line iPhone with three cameras supposedly to help in low lighting environment.

Cheers,

José
