Everything is still up in the air for me. Apparently there might be a Sony announcement on Sept. 18th. If there is an A6700 or A7000 I might consider that as well.

and... what the crystal ball and the rumors mill foresees there = any chance that the forthcoming a6700/a7000 will inherit the a9's AF speeds and accuracy? Esp. for the fast to very fast action shooting scenarios?

As we're almost always reach-limited in wildlife/BIF/sports/etc. a crop MILC has its high use and advantages, but... is pretty much doubtful that Canon's APS-C MILC worth attention will materialize anytime soon , if ever! Esp. now when the Eos-M is tacitly left to wither quietly on the sidelines (although the whole M-line was never such a MILC in either intention/design or execution )

If the A6700/A7000 have 12-15 fps, I will seriously consider it. If dpreview team thinks that the sensor is an improvement over the A6500 I will get it.

12-15 FPS - why not? They have just announced the new IMX342LLA/LQA 31.5 Mpx BSI APS-C sensor, which is supposedly to deliver up to 35.4 FPS (8bit RGB) on all pixels - that is... with a global shutter .

I'm not that much versed in photo-electronics, though, to be able judge whether such a sensor chip will be also capable of up to 1/8000 sec SS in practice? And another big unknown are the OSPDAF capabilities, IF ANY... of course.
