I will wait for the next one. Basically I want a 5d mark V
This is pretty close how I feel about it. I'm not saying this iteration is completely crappy, but around here the cheapest 5D mk IV prices are pretty close to this one and the strengths of EOS R (small size, wide spread of focus points etc) are not critically important to me and mk IV feels like a more balanced product. At the moment I'd rather get 5D mk IV than this.
However, I wouldn't be surprised to see Canon making a more or less direct mirrorless 5D mk V equivalent within a fairly small period of time (maybe next year), which I might well feel to be more attractive.
I am with you. I don’t think the R looks like a bad camera at all.
it is easy to get seduced with spec sheets and it comes off second best compared to Sony.
One thing I do not see often get talked about is the image quality straight off the sensor. I don’t mean DR or other measurable specs. I mean simply how good files look. This camera has the 5d4 sensor. I have 2 5d4s and I would not swap them for anything else. The files look gorgeous. I can edit 500 photos in less than a day from a wedding or.event. That’s because the WB and colour is so good all you have to do is tweak and stylise to taste. I can not stress how important this is if you are shooting a lot.
‘Also the ergonomics look really good. Another underrated consideration.
The online camera world is obsessed with measurable specs. The working photographers I rub shoulders with do not worry about specs that do not matter. also notice the people who make the most noise online are the people who never show their photos and are very busy criticising other cameras.
‘I can’t see how you could go wrong with this camera for general use.
