Interesting point. As you are stating yourself, your are clearly a technician with a passion for absolut perfection.
Don't think though you can get this with a camera. It's a creative tool, and the definition of "best" will be very different for different purposes and people. Never 100% objective.
That sounds rational. I´m partly guilty for my passion for perfection, but it´s not like I really need perfect camera. I just want some upgrade, And it seems that Canon closed that for me. Or at least for the price I would expect. The competition seems to bring me better price/performance ratio.
Same thing here! Fuji would never have gotten my money, if Canon would have come up with a similar lens lineup, and a M6 style cam with viewfinder.
Also, I don't think anyone was tricked into the M system claiming that it will become the new FF ML from Canon. I still believe it has the best IQ per Size ratio of all comparable systems.
Well, how do we define that? But yes, obviously that´s what I thought, and it still might hold. It´s just that absolute performance isn´t enough for my taste, so the price/performance ratio is not as much relevant as it was before.
That's at least true for me for the smaller M bodies. (M2, M100...). Did the M move into my direction? Guess no, otherwise I would not have invested into the Fuji system...
Seee, see?
On the R I do understand that the initial launch is not to the satisfaction of everyone. I would have loved the smallest possible package with superb AF, and compact primes.
Something like that. I would even swallow the size somehow, but then we get back to the value ratio.
Having evolved or degraded (ça dépend) from technician to economist, I kind of expect the market to regulate the price hike Canon is trying here. I could live with a €1500 R and some lenses :-D. I might simply want to go RF for the new 50mm. Love the 50 L on EF, kind of disappointing there is no roadmap for an upgraded EF version!
Pretty much what Fuji does on APS-C and the X-E3. But I see how Canon is building out a new system, and started with a compromise to test the market. Looking at the released lenses and the latest samples converted from RAW, I don't understand how this release can be so disappointing.
For me, it´s obviously price for what we get. I would possibly go with this upgrade from EOS M. EOS R + 35mm f/1.8 IS would be nice daily setup, although little bit bigger than I wanted. But as I can have better "black box" for less money, while it is smaller, this Canon offer seems have low value for me. And as I see, not only for me. Although, for different reasons.
Same conclusion here, only that I think prices will adopt to reality, and expect Canon to deliver additional bodies that may fit better. Just look how they dominated the DSLR space by just filling every niche from $x00 to the single digit pro line. Just made a 5 week "working vacation" in the US. It's mind-blowing how many Rebel you see there, that btw. may never ever see a single lens change in live...
I know I can get the same from my 5dmk IV in a similar sized package, but that's a different discussion. Let's see how quickly Canon is expanding the R system with more sophisticated pro bodies, or smaller ones...
btw.: I know the OP will disagree, but Fuji really delivers on the feature+compact+lenses side.
I was looking at Fuji too. It is very interesting what they do. And many of their bodies are not as expensive as before.
But then, they are looking at a different niche again. The thing that differentiates Fuji from most others (Canon/Nikon): They deliver everything they can, without crippling or holding back for strategic reasons. This then again leads to people whining why they bought the expensive XH1, when the quickly after released X-T3 seems to best it in so many ways... Hard to make everyone happy while gaining market share!
Agreed.
