I downloaded and paid most attention to these three images from the Canon USA site.

First an observation: All three images were taken with the exact same lens in April 2018, but with two different M5 cameras (the architecture and the portrait were taken with the same camera body). I would assume that much care was taken by Canon in picking this early specimen of the lens for its marketing samples, as well as the two bodies (which have succeeding serial numbers). I would expect the technical qualities of the images to be very high.

And although my personal initial testing of this lens would be at f/4 or f/5.6, which would probably produce it's optimum images, I am rather impressed with the above images that are wide open or close to it. Although none of the three subjects gives us a really good sense of acuity from center to edges or corners, the architecture image, even at a wide aperture, looks promising at least in one corner and to the upper edge (though what are those scratches in the image, since they don't look like contrails). I also like its smooth tonal renditions in the early afternoon light. The sun may have been softened by the clouds, but the color is nicely rendered.

The wide open f/1.4 portrait impresses me for the smooth transitions of out of focus elements across the near space, into the focused area of the portrait, back to smooth transitions fading to the rear. At f/1.4 I don't expect the portrait area to be tack sharp, but the model's left eye, assumed to be the focus point, has rich detail. I like this portrait.

I assume the third image is to show the lens' close up ability wide open in low light. I'd like to know more about the subject and its size before assessing it any further.

All in all, these images are encouraging. I'm still tiptoeing (from your other thread), but this is the lens I have talked about and wanted for my M5 for over a year. Once again, we'll see.

By the way, you asked about the (not included) lens hood in another thread, but I don't know if anyone answered. The Canon USA site is listing the new ES-60 hood for US $55.
