Me too ! MTF figures are in line with the EF 35mm f2 IS USM. Otherwise not much is known about IQ (what about bokeh, etc...).

The centre looks similar to the EF f/2, but the corners are somewhat better which is exactly as expected. One of Rudy Winston's Youtube videos explains that corner IQ is a key potential benefit of the shorter flange distance.

I think that it's more a question of it having less astigmatism in the corners, not necessarily a question of it resolving better overall.

Anyway I don't think that Canon aimed with this lens at "max resolution", or even "amazing bokeh / transitions". But rather at "super-solid reasonably small quite decent reliable moderately priced nice average prime, with some extra features as a bonus". What IMO they do better than anyone :D.

The Z 35mm seems to aim at a slightly loftier goal, with a price to match.

If Canon were to release a roadmap with more lenses like this one, I'd have more confidence in where the system is going.
