No sympathy for Canon, this is really bad.
While I understand the need for the new R mount specifications, Canon should at least have the decency to make the M flange distance the same as the R to maintain compatibility, give customers an upgrade path and protect lens investment.
I can't believe they never thought about that when designing the M series.

Maybe Canon did think about that, and maybe M was originally planned for full frame too. Maybe cannon is afraid for cross-compatibility of Sigma lenses via EF+MC11, giving Sigma lens owners the position to choose which camera brand they like the most for their lens owners, and maybe the new mount is a strategy to protect Canons own eco system.

Maybe Canon wants to protect full frame performance by not giving access to future full frame glass at bargain priced M camera's, especially not a high quality 50mm.

One thing is for sure: Canon did think about this. But als Canon has to change strategy if circumstances change in an unpredicted way.

Gonna keep my M gear, but my next body purchase will be other brand.

Could give you best of both worlds, as you have two systems to choose your focal lengths from.
