Re: Canon mounts investment
2
Sorry for ranting in a Canon forum while I don't even have a Canon camera atm but lemme explain...
I recently abandoned Nikon 1 and during last week or so have been looking into various systems to see where I might go in the future (once I have some money again).
Funny that before a few days ago, I haven't even considered Canon M, but upon looking into it some more, I really liked what I saw.
It made me remember about 12 years ago when I was choosing my DSLR system (I had a Canon compact at the time), one of the appeals Canon had was a clear upgrade path from APS-C to FF. Get an APS-C camera, some neat FF lenses, of course a few APS-C lenses for portability and the upgrade path was clear. I didn't chose that path but lots of people did for good reason. Lots of people who started with a 350D in 2005 now have 5D as well as 80D or something using the same FF lenses (with some APS-C ones thrown in). Smooth transition.
So as I was looking into Canon M, I thought Canon is gonna do the same again with MILC, right? Wrong. Canon M is now like Nikon 1 all over again - relegated to an afterthought while the company concentrates on the expensive stuff and keeping the series separate.
We yet have to see where Nikon is gonna go with its APS-C MILC, but geez as much as I dislike Sony cameras (just my personal feeling, no offence to anyone), it's now them who are using the old successful Canon's strategy that Canon itself is abandoning.
