My GX7 had problems with rear dial so I send it for repair (luckily I bought extended warranty). Camera returned from repair and I noticed some strange change in file naming. Last photos before sending camera had name starting with P149xxx.RW2 while now I have P665xxx.RW2. If each taken photo increases the file name number then I have made 49k photos before sending it. I checked with https://www.apotelyt.com/photo-camera/panasonic-g-shutter-count and have
PWRCNT: 4224
SHTCNT: 23794
STBCNT: 1046
Of course shutter count doesn't include photos with electronic shutter so according to above I made circa 26k photos (out of 49k) with electronic shutter which for sure didn't take place. I would estimate number of electronic shutters as about 5k. Is there any explanation to name changing and shutter counter? Should I worry about it?
Most likely they tested it using a random card in their repair shop, if the card had other files on it then the camera starts at the next highest number above what's on the card.
That's the fun of mixing cards and cameras without formatting the cards first.
It's no worry, there's usually a way of resetting back to 0001 in the file names to start afresh. Or with trickery and pain, getting back to the filename range that you had before it went for repair.
Regards..... Guy
