Hi This post is exactly what I would have posted about my own brief hands-on experience with a Z7. Much better in the hand than the frankly over the top negative internet reaction. I confirm that many settings including focus tracking can be done in the viewfinder - many preview have missed this feature.

I tried focussing under a quite dark desk and it acquired focus fine - but obviously I haven't had chance to really evaluate it against a DSLR like my D750.

So far I'm very impressed - feels great in the hand and very Nikon.

My critical things are low light performance (gig photography), focus acquisition and tracking plus silent operation. The shutter is normally quite quiet - not silent but much quieter than a DSLR. There is a quiet mode using an electronic shutter which is almost inaudible unless you are actually holding the camera. Downside is that it will under certain circumstances result in banding - this is not a Nikon issue but apparently more to do with the physics of a rolling shutter - Sonys have the same issue.
