Viewing pictures on a Fuji camera?

Hello, a quick question to any owners of Fujifilm cameras...

When viewing/playing back photos on the rear display, does your particular camera model have to be switched on first? I used to own the X100S a few years ago but I can't remember how that behaved.

Reason I'm asking, my lovely new XF10 annoyingly has to be switched on first before reviewing any images. Thus, the lens has to extend each time.

Every compact Canon camera I've owned, for example, allows you to review images by just pressing the playback button (while the camera is 'off', and the lens doesn't need to extend).

I'm presuming/hoping Fuji could change this annoying feature if they wanted to through a future firmware update??

thanks

Fujifilm X100S
