Hello all, getting back into 4/3s system. I am curious what the responsiveness is on the older lenses in 4/3 with the micro 4/3 converter. I was thinking of picking up some longer lenses such as the 50-500 sigma with the 4/3 to micro 4/3 converter?

Does it focus just as fast , as the original mount ?

I currently have a metabones canon to micro mount , curious if it would outperform that mount system ? Right now I have the canon sigma 150-600 with metabones and the G9, g7 panasonic. Curious if the conversion 4/3 to micro would be a little more responsive?

Hi Jay,

Depends.

Certain 4/3 Oly lenses are CDAF-enhanced and focus decently on m4/3 cameras from both makers. Most lenses, however, are PDAF-specific and require an E-M1--either version--for good m4/3 focus response and accuracy. The Bigma would be one such lens, as are all the SHG Olys.

Another caution is that adapted 4/3 lenses can't deliver the high frame rates achievable by m4/3 lenses--a consideration for action work.

I happily use several 4/3 lenses on E-M1s and appreciate extending their useful lives well beyond the graveyard of the E-system. Many are still unique with no m4/3 replacement.

I'll defer to others on adapting Canon AF lenses, as I have no experience there.

Good luck!

Rick
