I saw in the launch and repeated many places that the larger mount and shallower flange distance contribute to being able to have apertures as wide as f/0.95.

Given that there are already many f/0.95 for other platforms including DSLR with long flange distance, I thought this was a weird statement. At first I thought maybe this meant being able to do f/0.95 with accurate AF, but then I see their first Noct f/0.95 offering is manual focus only anyway.

So why is the Nikon's new mount size mentioned in relation to aperture?

Is this just a change from Nikon F mount? Are there really no f/0,95 for Nikon F due to its very long flange distance?

Wild guess - big mount for future Medium format senson having the same Z-mount.

Even more wild guess - current 35 and 50 f1.8 are big and “slow” just because they’re gonna fully cover 44*33 sensor.
