I understand. The front/back amount of out-of-focus occurs when auto-focusing on the eye and that amount does not change when recomposing, if I understand correctly.

What do you think about increasing the DOF with a smaller aperture, say f/8 or even f/11?

Any visible diffraction and/or slight out-of-focus can be recovered by de-convolution (as found in fancy sharpening functions), or it can be left as-is to the benefit of female subjects.

What do you think about focus-bracketing in MF mode? If the lens or the SD15 is truly front- or back-autofocusing, perhaps in time you could discover the manual offset needed for exact focus?
