Sigma 18-35 front focusing

I just recently bought a sigma 18-35 off Keh (rated EX+) for $619. I'm pairing it with a nikon d7200, and I had heard the lens had focusing issues, but mostly on canon. Unfortunately, the focusing tends to be off for most if not all of my shots. When I manually focus a shot, I am in love with the look and it is exactly what I'm looking for in a normal lens. My question is this... should I return the lens and buy it new? buy the dock to calibrate it? or look for another lens like the nikon 28mm 1.8 or 17-55? Basically looking for a fast normal lens, preferably 1.8 with good optics as I will be using it for college.
