Make A Change: Stick With EF/EF-S or EF-M? What Is The Future?
Aug 20, 2018
Been thinking about this a long time. Just have to much camera stuff in general and I want to consolidate down.
I have Canon a T2i and four EF/EF-S lenses. I also have the original M and M3 and three EF-M lenses. I originally switched back to the DSLR because my Panasonic micro 4/3rds drove me crazy. I have never disliked the performance of the DSLR except for the bulk of it all.
After having the DSLR for a while I also realized the reason I sold it in the first place - I detest carrying the thing. My primary lense is the EF-S 15-85mm, its pretty bulky and heavy.
After having it for a while I decided I wanted a smaller camera still. That was the reason I bought my original M. I figured I could use the M with its lenses and the EF/EF-S lenses. Well that turned out to be a mistake. On the original M my EF/EF-S lenses barely worked. And the autofocus, sluggishness and lack of viewfinder drove me insane.
Was never a fan.
Than I got the M3 figuring Canon fixed the autofocus and stuff. While better I still am not a fan. Absolutely hated the external EVF. I would never buy a camera with one ever again. And its still sluggish.
It dawned on me that I could have bough an SL1 with a small lens and achieved more or less of the same thing as the M's and its a EF/EF-S camera with no adapter.
Had an M5 as a loaner from a friend whom is a pro for a while. Though better than the M/M3 I was not impressed with it. Not a bad camera but I was like eh...and it was expensive.
On top of this I use my iPhone 7 A LOT for photography. Its just easier than dragging around the camera. The dam thing is always in my pocket. Its no DSLR by any means but its very convenient. I have seen the photos the iPhone X and other smart phones take and it blows me away considering its in your pocket.
Bottom line is I want to consolidate to just one system. I dont want to make a mistake and sell the stuff off and than regret doing it.
Would like to hear some opinions about the future of EF/EFS/EFM and which way it will go.
