Does anyone have any clue on why the q menu keeps popping up when I press the front command dial?

Are you inadvertently hitting the Q button? On the H1 it is easy to do.

Indeed. As in VERY easy.
Bob, you and Truman are amateur Q-Button-Hitters.

I am a pro. I have done it more than anyone. 2,987 times at last count.

And I keep hitting it on the X100F too!

By the way … you are in luck Boys.

I just got back from Mexico tonight and I'm going to post the images tomorrow. Internet was too slow. Had to wait till I got back.

Try to get some sleep. I know you can't wait....

Sounds like you assigned, by accident, the Q button to come on when the front dial is pressed. Press and hold down the Disp button until you see the “Function (Fn) settings” and scroll to the front dial and turn it off or assign it to something else. That is if you can assign the front dial in the first place on the X-H1.

Hi, There is no doubt - you are a q-button hitter. the man who designed this camera had drunk far too much Saki - complete idiot or joker putting a button on the tip of a grip. It has completely ruined the camera for me, I have ended up disabling the q button completely but still find in "view mode" I am still hitting it - sends me completely nuts!! The problem with disabling the Q button is that the menus are now so lengthy if you need to change anything it takes for ever more finding what you need. I've given up and gone back to a nearly new X-T1, I know were I am with this beauty. Rant over!!

Same issue with my GFX, Q button is placed very accurately so it can be accidentally pressed, all the time! Terrible choice of placement. Like you I just locked the button, so now the button doesn't exist ;-)

Though the OP should check the Q menu hasn't also been assigned to the front command dial.

The good news for me is I don't use the Q menu since the only reason I have Jpeg is to get a reliable view of what the raw exposure looks like. So disabling it was the solution for me. If you use the Q menu, then it just needs to be moved. It was a pretty poor location - especially if you use back button focus or the exposure lock buttons.

Thanks folks. You nailed it. I was hitting the Q button with my fat thumb. It came to me in my sleep. Yes. Bad placement indeed. Going to see if I can reassign to some other fn button that I don’t use.

I had the same problem, I did a little flap with gaffer tape, probably no more than 1-2 mm higher than the Q button and solved the unwanted Q menu

Does anyone know how and where to move it?

Thanks

Interesting.

I give that 3 Hmmm's. Now where did I put that gaffer's tape? ;)

Here's what I do with my GFX,

Go to the LOCK link item here to skip down to locking selected buttons...

Then hold the Menu/ok button down for a couple of secs to toggle this lock on/off.

In fact I think with the GFX you don't even need to assign the Q button, as everyone want to lock it, it's set to default lock when you hold the Menu/ok button down.

So try this first, just hold the Menu/Ok button down and see it that works before assigning Q as a button to lock.
