Years ago I had considered Lexar the equivalent of SanDisk, but then I noticed one by one the Lexar SD card began literally falling apart at the seam. I was able to glue some of them back together, but when I upgraded I went all SanDisk and have never had any of them fail. Little wonder Lexar went out of the memory card business!

I don't think that was it. Micron, the semiconductor manufacturer, purchased Lexar in 2006. They announced their intention to get rid of the Lexar memory card business in 2017.

"The decision was made as part of the company’s ongoing efforts to focus on its increasing opportunities in higher value markets and channels."

A Chinese company (Longsys) holds the Lexar trademarks now.  PC Magazine indicates that Longsys was already a flash storage company at the time of the acquisition.
