Canon 1DX mark ii : Edit , Transcode and store 4K video files. Workflow?

Hello,

One of the major negative point (for me) concerning the 1DX ii is the size of the 4k video files. There are huge!!

So, I’m wondering how you handle them.

I have only personal projects so generally speaking, the steps are :

  • Shoot
  • Edit
  • Export
  • Store the original files

So, I see 2 possibilities in order to reduce the storage needs :

Possibility 1

  1. Transcode the original Mjepg files in H265
  2. Import the H265 in premiere pro
  3. Transcode the H265 files in Prores LT 720p
  4. Use the prores files (proxy files) for the edit
  5. Use the H265 in order to make final adjustments (color grading, warp stabilization…)
  6. Export in H265
  7. Trash the Mjpeg files and store the H265 files

Possibility 2

  1. Import the Mjpeg files in premiere pro
  2. Transcode the Mjpeg files in Prores LT 720p
  3. Use the prores files (proxy files) for the edit
  4. Use the Mjpeg in order to make final adjustments (color grading, warp stabilization…)
  5. Export in H265
  6. Transcode the original files in H265
  7. Trash the Mjpeg files and store the H265 files

What do you think about these 2 possibilities ?

My main questions is about transcoding Mjpeg files in H265 files : is there a quality lose?

Thank you for your help.
