...used either a good UV filter (i.e. Hoya, Marumi, B&W, etc) or a good clear protective filter.   Always think about protection when it comes to your front lens elements.  Of course, stay away from those filters that you get for free (off-brand name).  Remember, filters should be as good as the optical glass you are protecting.  I'd rather break a filter, thus protecting the front lens element, than having nothing at all.  Been using filters for close to 50 years now.
