Illahe 1899 Expedition
6

An Oregon winery, Illahe, creates wine using no electricity.  Grapes are picked by hand, transported to the winery using mule or horse drawn wagons and placed in an cave for cool storage.  If electrical energy is required, it is generated using a bicycle.  The wine is then transported from the winery to the Willamette River by stagecoach.  See photos below.

Stagecoach arrives in Independence, OR with load of wine.

Mules and stagecoach are finished for the day.

Wine is loaded into canoes for the three day trip from Independence, OR downriver to Portland, OR.  Once to the dock in Portland the wine is transferred to bicycles for deliver to merchants and restaurants, as it was done in the early part of the 20th century.  Canoes are on there way to Portland as I write this.
