Nikon's large mount is a fascinating but confusing decision

A large Nikon mount is fascinating and I can see two main uses ibis and medium format. It might also help vignetting and wider apertures but forcing bigger lens to solve a problem that sony doesn't have would be odd.

Sony ibis is nowhere the level of Panasonic as the mount size doesn't allow it but this only really matters for video and it would impose bigger lens. Worth it for video  but not a great trade-off for stills users.

MF seems more likely to me, which would be really exciting for some. But FF lenses won't work with a MF body and MF lenses will be big and expensive. Strong reviews of MF performance will allow Nikon to grab media attention but it won't help FF users and the mount size looks silly for apsc cameras.

It going to be intriguing to see what Nikon are really up to.
