Samyang 85mm F1.4 AF - Another box opening and closer look
The size and look reminds me of the Minolta/Sony 85mm F1.4 (not GM, but the A mount Planar T star version) and is something missing at least on the Canon and Sony FE side.
For Canon AF, you have Canon 85/1.2 which is really heavy. The newer Canon 85/1.4 IS is also really heavy. There's no 85/1.4 within the 500-600g range like the Nikon 85/1.4 and Minolta/Sony 85/1.4 A mount side. The closest thing for Canon is the old Sigma 85/1.4 with 725g. The new Sigma Art 85/1.4 is 1130g which is a beast.
In the Sony FE side you have the 85/1.4 GM which is pretty a beast as well. You can use the Minolta/Sony 85/1.4 but you need a LA-EA4 which is itself pretty heavy.
Now with the new Samyang 85/1.4 AF it's offering something that no one else is offering.
One problem is the price is not that attractive at least to me. If I have a Canon 85/1.2 I and want to sell it to get the Samyang 85/1.4 AF, I am lucky to be able to sell it at $750 and buy the Samyang. The trade off of lighter weight will be the 1.4 vs 1.2 difference. But it's a tough decision not a no brainer for sure.
