Can the extra weight and size gives you better stability on using longer lenses?

It all depends.  Some people like the extra weight balance for use on gimbal head tripods, and in most cases the G9 body works well with the  3 huge panasonic lenses, as well as the Oly 40-150 and 300.  But, using the lens bracket mount the camera side is heavier than the lens.  On the other hand, I suppose the extra weight will be needed for people attaching DSLR lenses and using a gimble head and tripod.

Since the G9 is a camera designed for hand holding long telephotos it would be better if the G9 was a little lighter.  Nevertheless, even with the weight, that grip on the G9 is what makes it comfortable to hand hold those long telephoto lenses.

One thing I found helpful to learn about the hard to find AF and other focus modes is the YouTube.  There are tutorials on how to access menus that work in conjunction with other settings.
