Frankly, not many are like you, prepare to spend the money without first determining if you want a FF system or MFT. So you are comparing an apple with an orange. and there are many oranges and many apples, and few people choose between oranges and apples

Well, I don't really think it is about the money. If anything, I am downsizing and think it is more about saving money. I wasn't happy with the lack of pop lenses like the 14mm were giving me and realised that I would be looking at lenses like the 15mm and all their expense to get that. Then there is the camera itself. The GX80 is a lovely little, camera, but using that viewfinder to take in big expansive natural environments was just a nightmare and unenjoyable

So where do I go from there? Well the GX8 is nice enough but still more than the Sony A7 cost me. To get a real upgrade, I would be looking at the G9 or alike, which are a small fortune. So really, I feel a little bit priced out of Micro 4/3, as their mid range options are lacking, so why not look elsewhere? Especially when considering my desire to slow things down, concentrate on beautiful landscapes and nature etc.

So things are going well with the A7 thus far. It has many, many limitations, but my plan is to buy a nice, wide landscape lens and I have already purchased the 55 1.8 for a very good price (£380). This will serve me now in my 'less is more' attempt.

The only thing lacking is for wildlife, but I am only into exotic wildlife and have no safaris etc planned in the short term so will worry about that down the line. Given the bids accruing on my micro 4/3 gear I am essentially swapping my M4/3 kit for an A7, zeiss 55 and landscape lens (yet to be determined). I am doing things differently this time and investigating in nice lenses as the body's fall quickly and fall fast. Happy with my choice so far, but as I saw, I know this won't be the end of M43 for me as I suspect I will return to get a GX8 and 100-300 down the line to meet my wildlife needs.

The Loxia 21mm is the classic A7x landscape lens.
