my first photography website

the ideal specs for photos for a professional photography website. Any information that you deem relevant to the process is welcome and appreciated.

There has been good info on file sizes already - but -

You're kind of saying two different things here.  A 1st site vs a Pro site.  For a professional photography site I'd suggest looking at any one of a number of services like Zenfolio - then you can just upload the full sizes and let them worry about resizing to meet the needs of the specific browsers and devices accessing it.  On top of it you get features like proof galleries, print/products, client access etc. and much much more.

As a web designer there's so much to be concerned with from responsive design to working with mobile or 5K Retina screens equally.  And it's a constant battle to keep updating images and other content to keep it fresh.  There's also SEO, loading speed, now HTTPS and more.  Exhausting (in my experience).
