I recently bought an IPhone 8 and have been quite impressed with the image quality assuming that one doesn’t ask the camera to do too much.
My question is, is the IQ from the SX730 as good as the IPhone 8? I’ve owned older cameras in this line and I swear that the Iphone produces a better image.
I would be quite happy if the SX730 gave an equal or better image than the IPhone 8 with the option of a 40x zoom.
If you want the best IQ why are you buying an iPhone as opposed to what appear to be many better android phones?
It is always strange these comparisons where people are comparing against a raft of different cameras but the only phone that exists in the world on DPR is the iPhone. It is as though everyone troops out and buys an iPhone without a though in the world and then start getting fussy about which camera to buy for IQ.
A phone will probably in its limited range as will any short focal length fixed focus camera give a better image and the sensor development and computational image making will be better funded but these cameras are for long zoom so railing that the camera falls behind in the tiny operational environment a phone functions in serves little purpose and these are just such different bits of kit.
The compact world has to fund development out of less than a millions units a month so the smartphone will give better results in its fixed wide angle world and maybe a bit of zoom with 2 cameras but at a price.
If you want quality in a comparable equivalent camera to your iPhone get a fixed focus 28mm equivalent aps-c camera like the Fuji XT-10 XF 10 as the camera world has to up the sensor size to really compete. Comparisons with a cheapish small sensor super zoom just make no sense.
Sorry to be so snarky but these iPhone posts on such markedly different bits of kit do wear me down a bit
In some ways these posts boil down to my fixed focus lens gives sharper images than my zoom lens which is just a basic fact of physics and the phone sensor being better than the camera sensor of the same size is also a given.
