That is a common confusion, don't feel bad. The a9 is an E-mount Sony camera, and is mirrorless by any definition one might choose. The a99 and a99ii are A-mount Sony cameras, with the SLT paradigm as you describe. They are sometimes described as mirrorless since they use an EVF (one of the more obvious features of mirrorless cameras from a user's perspective). Side note: I have both and they are fantastic.

Describing the SLT cameras as mirrorless is kind of correct, suggesting they are not mirrorless is also kind of correct. They are sort of in between.
