Stephen, DPR reviewers disagree... and find stabilization best on the G9, w/ & w/out dual IS

Ah! - that's why you need to read more than one review and ask actual users as Trevor has here!

Robin Wong's review:

adds a different opinion to the mix too.

Stephen

and it's been a very informative thread with some very diverse opinions

I watched a youtube video which liked the G9 enormously, they gave the nod to the A7RIII on ultimate IQ but the G9 won on just about everything else and it is that everything else that help you get that great shot. And it's half the price.

There are people in this thread which seem to say the G9 is OK but isn't a great step up from the G80 especially given the cost.

The difference between a capable camera and a pro camera is a lot more firepower. If you need the extra firepower or options then get the G9. You must be hitting some bottle necks with the G80 to make you consider getting the G9.

I never tried the G80 so I don't know how capable the camera is compared to the GH series. However, if you need the bigger batteries, better stabilisation, better buffer, more resolution, hi res shots, more FPS and options to make panning better then get it.

To begin with I couldn't understand why the GH series cost two to three times more than a G series camera. However, after experiencing the fire power of the GH3 compared to the G3, I was hooked.

There also people in this thread who seem to say that just having a G9 in the hand is probably enough to make you realise that it is fantastic.

It handles better than the GH5.

No wonder I am still swinging. And incidentally Amazon don't have any in stock at that price at the moment.

Get the camera, and after a few months you feel less guilty paying that amount of money.

However, a serious question is how good is the buffer for the G80? Do you hit the G80 buffer wall?
