Trevor,

As someone who has yet to jump and buy a quickly focussing (caf) camera and quality long lens for birds, I am always interested in the thoughts and opinions of others

These reviews / comparisons rate the Olympus EM1-ll for bif against mixed backgrounds and the use of the higher speed electronic shutter as superior to the G9.

Both prior to the firmware update for the EM1-ll.

I haven't found any reviewer that contradicts this. I am curious why you seem to be leaning towards the G9 when the EM1-ll would, according to reviews, work well with your existing lens and would add the feature of pdaf that you currently do not have access to, and would seem to be ideally placed to make full use of. To me it would seem that you could continue to use your existing G80 where it does well and add the extra pdaf where its advantages would be most felt.

What do you think?

Stephen

Reasons for favouring G9:

1) I am very comfortable with Panny, ergonomics, handling and menus.  I have played with Oly m4/3s a number of times and they just don't fit me so well.

2) I am never going to pay more than £1000 for a camera.  At the moment the G9 meets that criteria, the EM1-II doesn't.
