Do you have the amps during full power flash recharge? That's also a limiting factor. Some power supplies are under-powered that way.

After the flash it goes to about .9 A for about 3 seconds.

I built an external battery pack to mount on my tripod and did these tests with a Watts Up meter.

2 Panasonic NCR 18650 cells in series using a 2S 5A BMS will deliver about 2700 mah then the camera will shut down.

The battery meter on the SL1 works correctly with this setup.

Thanks for all the info.  Some folks online have reported under-performing power supplies (supplying less than 1 amp).  Apparently too thin a margin (for some bodies).
