better sharpness on p100-400mm over 100-300mm mk2?

Simple advice - f7.1 or f8 @ 300mm

When using 100-300mm at the long end, use f7.1 or f8 to get maximum sharpness and resolution.

Your shots are at f5.6 despite the fact that you had enough light to go f7.1 or f8 without getting motion blur.

So, next time try f7.1 or f8. Anything above f8 is overkill and counterproductive.

And yes, 100-400 is sharper a little. Not in a different league, however. Just a little sharper.
