The D FA 24-70mm f/2.8 is fairly sharp @50mm.   So I would see a 50/1.4 as superfluous if you don't find yourself shooting wide open.   you may want to look at the aperture used with this lens, if you are always shooting at 2.8, you may benefit from a faster lens.

I have a smc-Pentax A 50/1.4 ( manual focus ) which I still use on both K-5 and K-1 usually in close quarters.  It is a fraction of the size and weight.   At 2.8 is is very sharp.   At 1.4 its, well, not.   So I would like to see what the new 50/1.4 can do.  However it is a great portrait lens, though I tend to use the Takumar 85/1.8 ( which is similar DoF wise ) for portraiture, especially on the K-1.

But other than the slowness, the 24-70 is a fine lens.
