Is background blur purely a function of field of view and aperture, with distances being equal?

This might be a stupid question. But let's say that I take a picture with a 35mm lens and a 50mm lens at the same aperture and the same distance to both subject and background, then crop the 35mm picture to the same field of view as the 50mm picture, will the amlunt of blur be equal? I know that I will lose some resolution.
