Control-by-wire manual focus and zoom, what's the advantage?

Hi All,

Today I tried a new camera Fujifilm X-T100 with XF15-45mm zoom lens. The lens is control-by-wire for manual focus and zoom. Oh well, I don't like it. It's not very responsive and feel wired. Is this control-by-wire focus/zoom a new fashion or what? I don't see any advantage in it.  Come on lens designer, this is a lens not an air plane!  When we do manual focusing or zooming we want direct control.  What do you think?
