First ever family group portrait session

Hello All,

Tomorrow I've been asked by a friend to take some photos in a public garden with lots of natural light and some greenery, I must admit I am a little nervous!

This will be the first time where I am to photograph numerous people all together, roughly 5 persons.

I have the equipment below as well as a 430EXIII flash, I am able to loan a 50mm 1.4 and 24-70 2.8.

Can anyone provide any tips for how to pose / talk to the family and as silly as it sounds, is it best using a big aperture such as 2.8/4.0 or stopping down to say f/5.6-7.1 in order to get more sharpness throughout the picture?

I have a reflector and will take just in case, the weather is set to partially sunny.
