Photography school recommends total 28-300m, best choice

Going to a “Wilderness and Nature Photography school” this winter, lots of hiking/sailing/astrophotography/animals.

I have been shooting with a D7300 with Nikon 10-24 and a 50mm, so far happy with the results, but I’m probably taking the step to a D750 now.

Would it be a bad choice to go with the 28-300, quality wise? I’m an amateur, not earning money, and trying to upgrade within my budget.

Would probably get a wider one later on as well, as I love to shoot at DX 10mm for night shots.
