Long time diver and photographer looking to combine the two

My son has gotten his Open Water cert and we're heading Marsa Shagra in October with my long-time dive buddy and his son who will do his OW there.  My son has been after me to buy a camera to use underwater.  I've never had much interest in UW photography, preferring to just enjoy the dive and because UW housing and associated lighting costs have been prohibitive.  So now I am looking at three options:  A Sealife DC2000 and appropriate strobe, a G7 X II (No idea which of three housings to choose) and strobe, or an Ikelite housing and strobe for my older LX100.  I'd like very much to keep the entire cost under $1500 although I would stretch to 2k if necessary.

I would very much appreciate your recommendations for camera, strobe and housing.  If you would choose the Canon, would you suggest a Canon, Fantasea or Ikelite housing?

While I wait for replies, I will continue reading everything I can find on technique along with every post and gallery I can find.

Kind regards,

Phil
