15-35mm zoom as general carry-around vs 20mm prime supplement

Through the decades, the more I shoot and collect lenses, the more I'm facing the fact that the 15-35mm (or similar zoom in 35mm equivalent) can not be my regular carry lens. Whilst I am aware of many people love their 15-35 as a regular carry, city walkabout or even main travel lens, I'm finding that whilst I love the ultra-wide end for the specific shots, I kept on removing it and gravitating to my mid-range or longer telephoto to pick out details. To this I'm thinking of dumping the 15-35mm zoom for a fixed 18mm or 20mm prime for those occasions and save some volume and weight.

Thoughts?
