Ha... this made me smile.

There are a few on this forum who have very fixed ideas as to what makes a good portrait, without studying the actual portrait itself.

The DoF is not too shallow, because there is no rule as to what DoF a portrait should be at.

The photographer chooses a look to be achieved and achieves it - job well done. The DoF can only be regarded as too shallow if that function results in a techically poor shot or if the intention / message of the image is missed.

(A bit like cropping tops of heads - there aren't hard and fast rules if the basic composition is balanced or as intended by the photographer).

Stating something is wrong is not the same as it being not to our taste.

Once we recognise there is more than one way to do a thing, we open up a world of possibilities. Taste is subjective.
