My point exactly. The question of sharpness of FF and crop depends on how they are being used.  Of course, if I could afford a similar quality 600mm lens for my FF it might give it an advantage over the 400 on the crop.  Then I could use it on my crop sensor to give 900mm equivalent, etc.  And the argument goes on. 

All that said, with unlimited budget for both lenses and cameras, a FF or even larger sensor is certainly optimal--except when hiking or riding my bike.  All these variable are what keeps this forum going!!!
