New(ish) software, so much that doesn't work any more

New camera always means new software versions.  Upgrading from the SL1 to the SL2 meant a new set of Canon applications.  With this new update of the Canon software, I'm enjoying the following benefits: Windows autoplay broken, intentionally. No autoplay functionality for my 50D that I still use. Cannot process RAW files from old cameras, 30D and Pro90 so far, neither of the 2 versions of DPP can handle the files. Computer can no longer import pictures from my Powershot SX10IS compact camera in any way, have to use a card reader.
I've been using Canon cameras pretty exclusively (in 35m/digital) for 20 years, Canon DSLRs since the D30.  I've always used ONE program to process the raw files from ALL cameras.  I've used ONE program to connect to every Powershot camera.  Windows autoplay is a mature technology that will always be better than some hacked up kludge launcher.
I guess this change happened a couple of years ago, I'm a bit surprised that I didn't find more complaints about it.  I spent several days going back and forth with Canon support to figure out that they had broken autoplay *intentionally* and there was nothing wrong with my computer or camera.  I LOVE this camera, but wow, this is really a lot of inconvenience.
