I use Hoya Pro1 and B&W protection filters, and have never had problems. Much prefer wet cleaning filters than dry cleaning lenses.

I must be odd man out. Since I went digital, I only ever use ND filters (rarely) but always use hoods - often of the type which has a pinch cap on the hood itself.

Occasionally I blow the lens off and/or use a soft brush but I very rarely clean them - nor my sensors.

Lenses stay clean and with swift lens changes - camera always held/placed facing down and lenses likewise as much as possible.

I find in the city a lot of dirt sticks to the lens surface. When I look at the gunk I clean off my filters (traffic pollution, pollen, dust) I would rather not do that to my lenses.
