Of course, you can use Vivid with the S100; but if it's defaults are like the S90/95, it needs some in-camera sharpening, and maybe saturation.
I'm probably in a different position than a lot of photogs on this forum because I shoot with DSLRs mainly for work and have the wonderful 330 for car-carry, macros of my watches and whatnot.
I bought the S100 because A) great price B) it was the camera I really wanted back then C) what the heck, let's just buy it and try it.
I went through a ton of small sensor point and shoots a long time ago but that was then. I'm probably going to sell this S100 because I've found out what I wanted to find out but, really, don't need, my 330 does it for me.
I had a Nikon J1 for a couple of years: small formfactor, 1" sensor, pretty amazing images...but ultimately I didn't need it and sold it.
True story: in my work, I get hassled by security cops all the time "what are you doing???" they'll ask while I'm taking pics. In fact, that happened on July 4th at 6am "what are you doing????". I usually answer "as you see". Anyway...
I'm downtown today, cruising around playing tourist with my S100, shooting away not knowing what I'm capturing when, at a train station, a security cop comes up and asks "'what are you taking pictures of ?" 99.99% of the general population never get asked that question but for me...well, it happens even when I have a point and shoot in my hands, go figure. This was the pic I was taking (SOOC jpeg, shooting jpeg plus raw so who knows what degree of tweaking in camera was done):

You can see a security cop on the left approaching. The cop that first talked to me was on my right. They were converging on the guy with the S100, THE ENEMY it seems. I guess I'm used to it, at least I'm always expecting it.
