It's a bit of a dated article, but it has a nice chart showing the year over year increase in energy density of lithium ion technology.

I was checking out Panasonic's site (they are the OEM of the Fuji battery) to see if there was a more advanced cell and think I may have identified the cell which is used. Unfortunately, they do not have a better one listed.

Anyway, based on the capacity (1260mAh) and dimensions (47mm x 36mm x15mm), I would guess the NP-W126S has 2 NCA593446 cells stacked side by side and wired in series. When you wire battery cells in series, the voltage increases but the capacity, as measured in amp-hours, remains the same. The Fuji published 8.4V is twice the full charge voltage of 4.2V. (3.6 is the nominal voltage. I assume that for marketing reasons they promote full charge instead of nominal)
