I can only compare my S100 with my 330 and
1

it's almost like an unfair comparison. My 330's lens is sharp corner to corner all the way to 10x zoom. The S100 just isn't as sharp. Corners are slightly blurry and it's not as sharp at 5x as the 330 is at 10x.

I've read about copy variations on the S100 lens (like the review here at DPR) and I wouldn't say my S100 lens is faulty, it's just not as sharp. If a guy didn't pixel peep he wouldn't notice. Or compare side x side with a classic like the 330.

I've tried bringing up raws from the S100 but they don't have much headroom to do anything (guess I'm spoiled bringing up shadows and taming highlights with my full frame cameras) so I'm just shooting it on Jpeg figuring, what the heck, I'm not after stellar IQ, it's just a point and shoot after all.

I don't really don't have time to walk around shooting snapshots (I work with my cameras usually) so this was just an experiment shooting snapshots whereas normally I just carry my 330 in my car for quick/emergency shots.

I went into this not knowing what to expect and knowing what to expect both at the same time. If the S100's lens was sharper that would be one thing. If shooting it in raw delivered amazing results, that would be another. Having all the controls it has almost isn't a benefit but mini-hurdles one has to navigate just to get the same shots as my 330 does effortlessly.

My last testing is going to be downtown (where I usually shoot with my D810). I'm just gonna walk around scouting locations with the S100 and I'll report back my findings.
