Tip on rescuing faulty / damaged CR2-files

Had a problem with one of my CF-cards giving faulty / damaged CR2-files in Lightroom. Could salvage the JPGs but really wanted the RAW files.

As some of you will know there are no good programs available to safely recover faulty / damaged Canon RAW files.

However, by chance, I tried to open some of the files in Photoshop - and it worked! Using the Photoshop "open file" dialogue I could open and immediately save the files as DNG - and afterwards open the DNG files in LR.

Just thought I would share this strange occurrence so others can give it a try if and when needed.

(Let me add that I afterwards checked the reader, cable and re-installed LR to make sure none of these were at fault. Same result. LR saw broken files, but PS could at least open and then save them)
